Re: Yesterday each coat in a store was offered on sale price.
So the catch here is that it's 70% of its regular price? So its a 30% discount of the 60 which gives a No answer to the question and a Yes to the 50% so we can be sure they applied the big discounts to the cheap ones.

Did the population of Country S increase by less than 20 percent from 1965 to 1975 ?
(1) The population of Country S in 1965 was 180 million.
(2) The population of Country S in 1975 was 1.17 times what it was in 1965
let population in 1965 be 'x' and in 1975 be 'y'
1. x=180million. Insufficient because we don't have information about 1975 population.
2. y=1.17x. Insufficient because we don't have information about 1965 population.
1. and 2. combined are sufficient because we have enough information to figure out the percent increase in the population.

Hi Guys. Has anyone negotiated with McCombs for the scholarship?
Hello jasmeetsingh0790,
It is common to negotiate scholarship if one has other competitive admits (with scholarship). However, there are no guarantees. One just needs to try and see.
Good luck!

Re: x, y, and z are consecutive positive integers such that x < y < z. If
Since we are working with only the units digit, the approach will work fine for larger values as well.
Let's find some values that satisfy the given information.
If the units digit of x^2 is 6, then it could be the case that x = 6 (since 6^2 = 36)
Since x is the first consecutive integer, it could be the case that y (the second integer) equals 7.
Notice that y = 7 satisfies the condition that the units digit of y^2 is 9 (since 7^2 = 49)
Since x = 6 and y = 7 satisfy the given information, we now know that z COULD equal 8, in which case z^2 = 8^2 = 64
So, the unit's digit of z^2 must be 4
Answer: D
Is there a more scientific method for solving or proving this? If I try the values from 1-9 it quickly gets clear what we are after but what if the values would go far beyond 10 how would I solve it then?
Thanks a lot for a reply!

x, y, and z are consecutive positive integers such that x < y < z. If the units digit of x^2 is 6 and the units digit of y^2 is 9, what is the units digit of z^2?
(A) 0
(B) 1
(C) 2
(D) 4
(E) 5

Re: The presence of water of Mars has been known for many years; its ice
You have a good point. This is a very poorly written question. For instance, "for lakes and oceans for water" doesn't make sense, and the statement that opals "require liquid water" is not precise enough for the GMAT. Require it for what?
Aside from when the "initial" years of Mars were, we also don't know that any liquid water on Mars must have formed lakes or oceans. Why not a river? This one needs to go.

Pls explain why B is the answer as the passage doesnt provide any info about the initial years of mars, mars could be 10 billion years old.

Because d answer consider only micronutrients, not say about macronutrientsD to me is incorrect because it suggests commercial fertilizers are required. However, it doesn't seem to be required based on not all homeowners but many use it for a healthy balance.
"Many homeowners regularly add commercial fertilizers to their lawns and gardens to maintain a healthy balance of nutrients in soil."
