Adam, Bart, and Carol started working together to complete a task in a certain number of days. In the course of work, they remained absent for a few days and therefore the work was completed 3 days later than planned. If Adam and Bart remained absent for 2 and 4 days more than Carol, then Carol remained absent for how many days?

A. 1 day
B. 2 days
C. 3 days
C. 4 days
E. 5 days

|a-b| + |b-c| - |c-a|

We need to keep the value of |c-a| minimum.
Let's take c = 18, a = 19
And b as 1

|a-b| + |b-c| - |c-a| = |19-1|+|1-18|-|18-19| = 18+17-1 = 34

B is the answer.

Consider 3 friends A,B and C work at different speed. When the slowest 2 work together, they take m days to finish the task and when 2 quickest of them work together, they take n days to finish the same task. One of them if work alone would take thrice as much time as it would take when all three work together. How much time it will take when all three work together?

1. \(\frac{3mn}{2(m+n)}\)
2. \(\frac{2mn}{(m+n)}\)
3. \(\frac{4mn}{3(m+n)}\)
4. \(\frac{5mn}{3(m+n)}\)
5. \(\frac{8mn}{3(m+n)}\)

Arif wished to use his VCR to record a 60 minute documentary scheduled to be aired at 10.30 PM.At 8.00 that morning, he set the timer to begin recording at 10.30 PM the same day and to stop recording exactly 60 minutes later. If the timer on the VCR slows down by 30 seconds every hour and the documentary was aired on schedule, then how much of the next program after the documentary did the vcr record?

A)6 minutes and 45 seconds.
B)7 minutes and 15 seconds.
C)7 minutes and 45 seconds.
D)7 minutes.
E)7 minutes and 30 seconds.

In my book the answer is c but i got 7 minutes 25 seconds(7.25).

Well, I think my interview went well this morning. It was a fairly relaxed agenda that was mostly questions about my experiences working with different people, cultures, ages, etc. I was also asked a few questions about my goals and how the MBA will help me achieve those goals. It was fairly free flowing and only had a few questions that were asked about specific situations or stories.
Overall I felt good about it, but was also not able to read the interviewer about some discussions. I am hoping for good news next week.

Everybody else going through the process, Good Luck!

Hi All,

Congrats to 'prasanthraju' and 'TsarinaDaria'!

I submitted my application last Wednesday, completed the Kira Talent video essays last Friday , and just received an invite to interview. I like these schools that move through the process smoothly. Waiting for notices or decisions is a killer.
I will do a little more prep this weekend and interview Monday morning. Looks like there is a lot of interview material in the threads for this school, thanks to all those that went through this before us.

Georgetown Law vs Yale SOM

I am in an interesting position where I have two very different options. I know the advice generally is if you want to go into business go to business school and if you want to go into law go to law school. However, what I want to do seems achievable from both - to be a Program Officer at a big foundation focused on health (Gates, RWJ, Walton, etc). To me the trade-off seems to be the strength of the degree (JD > MBA) vs strength of the institutions (Yale > Georgetown), but would love to hear thoughts. Also, I know the value of degrees lessen significantly after the first job, but assuming that getting a job is the exact same with both degrees (JD and MBA), which specific degree is a stronger signal to hiring employees.

Lastly, just as a personal preference, I cant decide which one I would find more enjoyable. I feel like law school would be more intellectually stimulating, but business school would be a lot more fun and perhaps I would come out with a stronger sense of a community.

I think I did well on the writing question, but depends how they view it. It was a bit of a curve, but I created a backstory within my email. The directions were brief, so I took the liberty to make assumptions that would allow for a creative response.

It seems that they liked it well enough. I received an admit offer this morning.
I am very excited to receive my first offer, and very much appreciate the well run process with RSM.

Hi cmccray26,
There are two sides to the argument at hand: Health officials & Test reports.
Both have their respective claims.
Health officials: Seafood (in-general/all) served was contaminated.
Test reports: Most people who ate seafood at the restaurant on that date had not come in contact with the bacteria in question.
Question stem asks us to find an option that helps to resolve the apparent discrepancy as much as possible.

(C) All and only those who ate contaminated seafood at the restaurant on that date were allergic to the monosodium glutamate in a sauce that they used.
This proves Health officials point to an extent but does nothing to test reports. Plus, what about the people who ate contaminated food but were not allergic to glutamate? second part also weakens the health official's claim.

(E) All and only those who ate a particular seafood dish at the restaurant contracted the illness.
This strengthens both claims and clears the air. Only some got sick and the ordered a particular sea food, which was contaminated.

Hope that helps.

I was stuck between D & E and decided to go with E.

However, can anyone help me with why D is wrong ?

Best regards,

Two questions

1. In option D why is ?????? of stinging causing??????. ungrammatical?
2. In Option E, can I say that "with the result" equates to "resulting in"? Is it always true in all cases that "with X" would give the outcome?

Have you taken any CATs? The OG diagnostics tell you roughly your ability relative to average, but a 550 score is around the average GMAT score anyway. I would suggest taking one of the two free Official CAT Mocks that you get when you sign up for the GMAT, and use that as a basis. From there you can get a pretty close gauge of your score right now, and will then have an accurate way to start improving.
