According to Adcom, they sent an early decision email for a few outstanding students who had the interview in January.
I did mine in Feb, and they said they are not likely to send out early decisions for Feb interviewees because one of the adcom members is absent for a week, and the decision date is pretty close anyway.
When did you have your interview?

What is the least common multiple of 39, 91, 93 and 217?

A. 8461
B. 8462
C. 8463
D. 8464
E. 8465

=>

Since 39 = 3 * 13, the least common multiple must be a multiple of 3.
The sum of the digits of a multiple of 3 is a multiple of 3.
8643 is the only answer choice for which the sum of the digits is a multiple of 3: 8 + 4 + 6 + 3 = 21 = 3 * 7.

Therefore, C is the answer.

Alternatively, since 39 = 3*13, 91 = 7*13, 93 = 3*31, and 217=7*31, the least common multiple of the four numbers is 3*7*13*31 = 8463.

Therefore, the answer is C.

Answer: C

[Reveal] Spoiler:
Attachment:
2018-02-20_0956.png

For a vertical line, x always has the same value, no matter what value y takes. The equation for such a line is \(x = a\), and \(a\) is the x-intercept (what x equals when y = 0).

Here, the equation for segment PQ is x = x. That is, x takes a's place on RHS. (RHS "x" could have been k, 2, Z, @, 15, etc.)

The midpoint of PQ lies on the line x = x. Its x-coordinate is \(x\).

Eliminate answers C, D, and E

The y-coordinate for the midpoint is 0. Use
Midpoint formula:
\(\frac{y_1+y_2}{2}=\frac{-y+y}{2}=\frac{0}{2}=0\)
OR
Use the rule about reflection over the x-axis.

Rule: If a point is reflected over the x-axis, then
\((x,y) -> (x, -y)\)

Those are the coordinates of these two points. They are reflected over the x-axis. The distance of y from the x-axis equals the distance of -y from the x-axis. The halfway point is the x-axis, whose equation is y = 0.

Midpoint coordinates are (x,0)

Quote:
Since 1980, the notion that mass extinctions at the end of the Cretaceous period 65 million years ago resulted from a sudden event has slowly gathered support, although even today there is no scientific consensus. In the Alvarez scenario, anasteroid struck the earth, creating a gigantic crater. Beyond the immediate effects of fire, flood, and storm, dust darkened the atmosphere, cutting off plant life. Many animal species disappeared as the food chain was snapped at its base. Alvarezs main evidence is an abundance of iridium in the KT boundary, a thin stratum dividing Cretaceous rocks from rocks of the Tertiary period. Iridium normally accompanies the slow fall of interplanetary debris, but in KT boundary strata, iridium is 10100 times more abundant, suggesting a rapid, massive deposition. Coincident with the boundary, whole species of small organisms vanish from the fossil record. Boundary samples also yield osmium isotopes, basaltic sphericles, and deformed quartz grains, all of which could have resulted from high-velocity impact.

Pare summary : Some asteroid struck, impact on food chain, evidence given

Paleontologists initially dismissed the theory, arguing that existing dinosaur records showed a decline lasting millions of years. But recent studies in North America, aimed at a comprehensive collection of fossil remnants rather than rare or well-preserved specimens, indicate large dinosaur populations existing immediately prior to the KT boundary. Since these discoveries, doubts about theories of mass extinction have lessened significantly. Given the lack of a known impact crater of the necessary age and size to fit the Alvarez scenario, some scientists have proposed alternatives. Courtillot, citing huge volcanic flows in India coincident with the KT boundary, speculates that eruptions lasting many thousands of years produced enough atmospheric debris to cause global devastation. His analyses also conclude that iridium in the KT boundary was deposited over a period of 10,000100,000 years. Alvarez and Asaro reply that the shock of an asteroidal impact could conceivably have triggered extensive volcanic activity. Meanwhile, exploration at a large geologic formation in Yucatan, found in 1978 but unstudied until 1990, has shown a composition consistent with extraterrestrial impact. But evidence that the formation is indeed the hypothesized impact site remains inconclusive.

Para summary : there were doubts in previous theory. evidence found, doubts faded but still remain

While reading I have attempted the paragraph this way. Read only the green part while skim the rest.

Passage summary : two theories about mass extinction , but doubt as evidence remain inconclusive.
Scope : theories about cause of mass extinction
Tone : Doubtful , Inconclusive, Ambiguous, Skeptical

Question 1:
Quote:
1. It can be inferred from the passage that supporters of the Alvarez and Courtillot theories would hold which of the following views in common?

its an inference question, means according to the passage it must be true. Something is common in between these two theories. Now here is a trick. if Common or opposite is asked between two theories, what is best place to look for ? Post second theory ! here in this case 2nd theory is mentioned in mid of 2nd para. look for answer there and match it with what you know about the first theory. How about these lines. first theory also something has to do with volcano.

Quote:

now use POE and eliminate answer choices. its very easy to find it now.
Quote:
C. Mass extinction occurred as an indirect result of debris saturating the atmosphere.

Question 2:

for such questions, immediately start reading one sentence prior to this part. mind the "BUT" mentioned just before the bold part, meaning that something opposite to that is coming up. its an evidence in support. Think on these line and you find the answer.

A. The industries that were the greatest employers in State A prior to 1995 laid off much of their work force in the 1995-2000 period.
B. Due to divorce, a lowered birth rate, and other factors, the average number of individuals per household in State A declined from 1995 to 2000.
C. The software industry, which provides relatively few jobs at a relatively high payscale, grew rapidly in State A from 1995 to 2000.
D. During the late 1990's, the state government in State A drastically reduced property taxes.
E. States adjacent to State A also had simultaneous increases in per capita income and decreases in average household income in the 1995-2000 period.

hi..

two facts :-
1) income per person has increased
2) income per group of the same person has decreased

ONLY reason that the group has gone smaller

lets see the choices that tells us so or gives a similar/another logic for decrease in group inspite of increase in each members increase

B gives us the same reason of decrease in members per group..
say each member income has grown from 100 to 130..
so each household when consisted of 4 members had average income of 400
Now with household decreased to 3 person will have an average income of 3*130 = 390 so reduced by approx 3 %.

Hi Chetan2u. Nice explanation. But what is wrong with option A ?

Hi ,

Option A is ambiguous as it does not give anything substantial to infer.
We can say that the many folks have been laid off but that does not mean that they can not do business and increase their spending .
Also we can not infer rising per capita income from A

Fast-food restaurants make up 45 percent of all restaurants in Cantaria. Since the average age of the Canatrian population is gradually rising and will continue to do so, the number of fast-food restaurants is likely to decrease.

Which of the following, if true, most seriously weakens the argument?

A) Fast-food restaurants in Canatria are getting bigger, so each one can serve more customers.
B) Some older people eat at fast-food restaurants more frequently than the average young person.
C) Many people who rarely eat in fast-food restaurants nevertheless eat regularly in restaurants.
D) The overall population of Canatria is growing steadily.
E) As the population of Canatria gets older, more people are eating at home.

OG 2017 New Question

Imo D .

So conclusion is that the number of restaurants will decline. What will weaken it .
The answer which ha something to with the number of restaurants not declining will be the answer .

A this is classic trap answer . If the size of the restaurants increases then also there can be a decline in the number of restaurants.
B Still "some " is the problem as there can be 1 old person and there can be 100 old persons so throw this option in the dirt! .
C this just out of scope as it give new information with no relevance to the argument .
D Hmmm this one actually says that the population will increase and thus the restaurants will have customers so this is our answer .
E This clearly strengthens the argument

Eight years ago hunting was banned in Greenfield County on the grounds that hunting endangers public safety. Now the deer population in the county is six times what it was before the ban. Deer are invading residential areas, damaging property and causing motor vehicle accidents that result in serious injury to motorists. Since there were never any hunting-related injuries in the county, clearly the ban was not only unnecessary but has created a danger to public safety that would not otherwise exist.

(A) In surrounding counties, where hunting is permitted, the size of the deer population has not increased in the last eight years. - This shows that the ban on hunting was indeed unnecessary and that the ban has led to a six fold increase in the deer population. Hence, increasing danger to public safety
(B) Motor vehicle accidents involving deer often result in damage to the vehicle, injury to the motorist, or both. - the question stem asks for "additional support". The fact that motor vehicle accidents cause injury to motorists is already stated in the argument - causing motor vehicle accidents that result in serious injury to motorists -
(C) When deer populations increase beyond optimal size, disease and malnutrition become more widespread among the deer herds. - This actually weakens stating that the deer are not capable of causing harm
(D) In residential areas in the county, many residents provide food and salt for deer. - This could mean that people dont consider deer as a danger to public safety
(E) Deer can cause extensive damage to ornamental shrubs and trees by chewing on twigs and saplings. - Out of scope. The argument is concerned with danger to public safety not danger to vegitation

Thanks for your response. I hv already scheduled a session with you guys for tomorrow but i wanted to know from you whether my profile is good enough for a hit on the M7 schools, Insead or LBS.
Yes, PGDM is MBA and these schools do allow a second one.

Hi, and thanks for writing! You seem to have strong academics. To clarify - is the Post-Graduate Diploma in Management equivalent to an MBA? If so, you'll want to check with each target program to see if they would accept applicants who already have an MBA/this degree.

Aside from academics, other criteria important to the admissions committee are:

1.) your career progression to date and the impact you've made in your roles thus far - while I can't gauge this from what you've written, the AdCom will be able to discern this from your resume, interview, and recommendations
2.) your passions outside of work - the NGO experience and solo travels are good, and you'll want to convey the impact you've made on the NGO during your time involved on your resume (and, potentially speak about it in your essays, if the topic gives you an opportunity to do so).

For a strong application, you'll also need to clarify your ST/LT goals, what drives them, the transferrable skills you'll bring to your post-MBA roles, and how an MBA from each program will help you achieve them.

I hope this helps a bit! If you want to discuss your profile in more detail, I suggest signing up for a free 30-min consultation here: https://www.mbamission.com/consult/?dis ... admissions

Question No.: 40
Page: 131
Difficulty:

Journalist: Well-known businessman Arnold Bergeron has long been popular in the state, and he has often talked about running for governor, but he has never run. However, we have just learned that Bergeron has fulfilled the financial disclosure requirement for candidacy by submitting a detailed list of his current financial holdings to the election commission. So, it is very likely that Bergeron will be a candidate for governor this year.

The answer to which of the following questions would be most useful in evaluating the journalist's argument?

A. Has anybody else who has fulfilled the financial disclosure requirement for the upcoming election reported greater financial holdings than Bergeron?
B. Is submitting a list of holdings the only way to fulfill the election commission's financial disclosure requirements?
C. Did the information recently obtained by the journalists come directly from the election commission?
D. Have Bergeron's financial holdings increased in value in recent years?
E. Had Bergeron also fulfilled the financial disclosure requirements for candidacy before any previous gubernatorial elections?

Imo E

A is irrelevant as there financial holding can be greater or lesser than that of Arnold Bergeron
B Now this choice may seem like the answer but it does no in any way give us information of the candidacy rather it gives information regarding financial disclosure .
C Out of scope .
D Out of scope
E Now this is the answer the answer to this question will either weaken the argument of strengthen the argument .

Thus, to alleviate congestion and save Rodway's stores, the road between Ipswich and Rodway should be widened.

Which of the following, if true, casts the most doubt on the argument above?

(1) The construction necessary to widen the road will block an additional lane of traffic, temporarily adding to the congestion.

(2) The stores in Rodway are only profitable during the holiday shopping season.

(3) Martin is a thriving metropolis whose residents have several times the purchasing power of those of Ipswich.

Martin's stores have only experienced a slight increase in profits since the road from Ipswich was widened

It tells that the widening of the road led to only slight increase in profit of the Martin. So they were already profitable and it had good stores or some other factor that contributed to the profits .
So even if the road between Ipswich and Rodway is widened it will not have any effects on the stores .
