If you are (and even if you aren't) applying somewhere competitive, I would take it the very minute you think you're ready. What if you have a test blunder? Hopefully you get the GMAT score you need the first try, but you always want to have time to retake it. Additionally, you could be working on essays and other parts of the application right now instead of having the GMAT as the priority. I suggest you start studying now and take it as soon as you feel ready and not a minute later.

Hi,
I am hoping to enter graduate school in the Fall of 2014.
Schools I am interested in applying to have application deadlines of approx. January 10 for early deadline and March 31 for final deadline.
Does anyone have advice on when I should take the GMAT? I am thinking October or November of 2013 or as late as mid December 2013.
Any advice or experiences would be helpful.
Thanks!
