Hi everyone,
I am highly considering applying for MBA and wanted to get peoples perspectives on my current situation
Context:
- Currently 26 years old, M, American & Israeli passport holder
- Undergrad at top 30 U.S. private university, studied biomedical engineering with 3.71 GPA
- 3.5 years of strategy consulting experience in life sciences boutique firm in NYC (have gotten promoted multiple times, a manager now)
- Going to retake GMAT aiming for 720/730
- Long-term career goals are to be a biotech executive in strategy/BD (Chief Business Officer)
- Originally I wanted to do an American business school but my plans changed my partner and I want to move to Israel in the near-term (1-2 years max). We are hoping to live there for a couple of years but are dynamic and are planning to move between Israel and U.S. as career opportunities allow
- I have been recruiting for strategy & BD roles in biotech but have received m advice that I should get an MBA to support longer term success getting higher exec level biotech positions
- My main motives for getting the MBA are:
- Prestige I went to a top 30 undergrad private school for biomedical engineering, strong boutique life sciences consulting firm, but I do not have Ivy League / strong MBA program brand name recognition
- Given I will likely be in both Israel and U.S., both international and U.S. prestige matters to me
- Easier path to executive-level roles at biotechs
- Network in healthcare (I have a strong network from internships and client work in biotech/pharma but always good to grow)
- I will likely go back to my consulting firm for 1 year after for them to pay for school (planning to work remotely from Israel) and then recruit for biotech so not totally worried about recruiting right out of B school
- I am hoping to do a shorter MBA program due to personal reasons of wanting to live in israel already so I am looking at two main options: Kelloggs 1 year program and INSEAD MBA
Question: Do people have any perspectives on what the pros and cons would be for each of these programs for my current situation, and what theyd recommend doing?
Specifically thinking about the following considerations:
- Healthcare focus of each program and their alumni network I know Kellogg has a name in healthcare, I am mostly wondering about the presence of INSEAD? Does INSEAD have a strong healthcare network?
- Student life is Kelloggs 1 year really separated from the 2 year program? INSEADs program is more of an appeal here because everyone is going through the same thing together
- Brand / prestige thinking about the fact that Kellogg has a strong brand in the U.S. relative to INSEAD, but if I work in Israel for a bit then how does Kellogg stack up vs. INSEAD?
Id also love to get peoples perspectives on timeline for applying I solidified all of this relatively recently so here is what I am thinking:
- Most aggressive timelines:
- Kellogg 1 year: round 3
- INSEAD: round 4
- Question: How difficult is it to get accepted to Kelloggs 1 year program in round 3? How difficult is it to get accepted to INSEAD in round 4?
- I sort of want to try my luck here to see if I can speed up my processes, but maybe I will reconsider (apply to INSEAD January start round 1 or the next years round 1, apply to northwestern round 1 the following year) if it is impossible to get into these programs in round 3/4
Really appreciate anyones perspectives here thank you!!
