Well, first of all it depends how great they are... but your intuition is probably right.... as great as your academic achievements might be, they probably are not thaaaaaaat unique (meaning a lot of the other people who will go to this school will ALSO have great academics) so my tendency would be to suggest you to look somewhere else.
