I got 620 GMAT and I have just received an offer.
Everyone is stressed out on GMAT, I hope my experience would shed some light.
For LBS, their class average is 685, with the range 600-780. They suggest a score of 700 is competitive.
With a 620 score, I should be ashamed of myself. To be honest it's really low, many would think I should be rejected right away.
Anyway I applied 4th July, and I was a late applicant, meaning that competition is the most intense. I was then offered an interview on 24th July, now I have just received an offer.
So after all GMAT doesn't matter THAT much.
I agree with many who said GMAT is only a part, I would say it accounts for 10% of everything they consider.
They also consider your person as a whole, your academics, extra curricular activities, how you will fit into the class, how well you know about the course and your career goals.
I feel that I am an all-rounded person as a whole, that is how I think I got admitted. They won't look only at your GMAT and say, this person did so bad, and reject straight away. This is only one piece of information. And they look at many other things. I got a 2.1, graduate from Durham University (UK top5), Duke of Edinburgh Gold, 500 hours volunteering work, internship in Investment Bank etc. I also spent 2 weeks looking through everything about the school and the course. All these are considered alongside with my GMAT. I am certain that I didn't meet their GMAT requirement, but because I met their requirements in all other criteria, they still offered me a place.
If I were to suggest anything, if you get anything above 680, don't worry about retaking. Instead, spend more time on researching and putting together your application essays. Even if you retake it again and get 750+, it would only make you feel that you will definitely get in and ignore other things. I hope this helps. =)
