I recently took the GMAT and scored a 700.
While this puts me in the top 10% overall, I scored in only the 63rd percentile on the Quantitative portion. That wouldn't be so bad, except I was a math major and know I can do a lot better than that. My decision to even apply to B-school came about very recently, so I did not really study other than doing the free practice tests on the GMATPRep software.
I believe that I can improve upon this score substantially, but not before the deadline of the school to which I am applying (technically the deadline has passed, but they will still be accepting applications for the next 2 weeks)
I would be applying to U of WA, whose avg GMAT is 680ish, so I am currently on the high side of the curve of applicants, but I could reasonably get my score to the 720-740 range with just a little more effort.
The most glaring weakness to my application is my undergraduate GPA. I went to a community college for the first two credit years (5 actual years) of college, and eked out a 2.0. The following 2 years I had a GPA of 3.62, but it's from a low-tier school.
So my question is, does being rejected affect my chances next year? is it better to apply with my 700 and hope for the best, or wait until next year and apply with a better score? What would you do if you were me?
