Depends on your strengths. Some people - myself included - feel that interviews in person allow much more for their personalities to come through and for a bond to form.
That said, I have heard of some schools (Booth, for example) merely giving a list of questions for interviewers to ask and to just have a an informal chat and give thoughts. Each school's process is different. If you are in touch with alums in your area, ask them if they have ever interviewed candidates and their recommendations.
