Another "First Practice GMAT" Freak Out (but, still, help.)

i consider myself a fairly competent person, and did decent in high school with the SAT's (1410, V: 700, M: 710). i just took my first practice GMAT though, and was shocked by how poorly i did (530 out of 800; V35 84th percentile; Q29 22nd percentile; taken from the Manhattan GMAT website).

admittedly, i had horrible time management with the quantitative section. i got through only half of the questions before time ran out. also, i'm about seven years out of school, so even the pythagorean theorem took a little bit to remember which type triangles the theorem applied to.

i have about six months to get to my target score of 750. anyone think i'm bat-shit bonkers trying to achieve this? the strange thing is that i never struggled with math, but i'm finding the problems with the quantitative section pretty challenging.

anyone have similar experiences? should i abandon ship and try the GRE instead? with the GRE, i scored ~1320 on my first practice exam. FYI, i have no issues with putting in the work (i'm a tenacious motherf*ker). i do, though, have a full time job and am worried about burn out.
